Four ways to deal with change

“In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.” Abraham Maslow

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. One thing that I want to write about is how I deal with change. Change is something that happens to us all. I realize this, but yet it’s so hard to change sometimes. I think it’s hard to change because I like things in a routine (my wife would say different). While I want to be spontaneous and creative at times, I enjoy things in a particular order.

One of the more significant changes in my life is I went back to work. I was laid off in March due to COVID. During my time off, I took care of my daughter while my wife worked. Then in August, I went back to do; it wasn’t the fact I went back to work that worried me; what bothers me was I would be working from home. At the time, I was worried about how would I do? How would we, as a family, deal with all these changes? It got me all worked up.

My 1st day back, I felt weird, but what I knew came back to me very quickly. We so far have been able to adjust.

So here are some ways I believe helped me in dealing with change, and I hope they help you too.

1) Realize that change is happening all the time. We might not see or feel it all the time; however, each day, we are growing in some way.

2) Focus on the positive of the change. What happened that could be beneficial to you? Write down how this change can help you?

3) Find a way to express the way you feel. Write it down, talk to someone

4) Reevaluate the change and realize that this was a learning experience, and you can adjust.

I hope this helps you. I know the next significant change in our family is when our daughter goes to school virtually for the start of the school year. I wish you and your family the best. Thank you

Hi, I am in my early '40s with a wife and a young daughter. I am doing this so I can share my ideas, thoughts, and creativity with the world. I also wanted to find new ways to express myself. I hope you enjoy it.
